QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Experience: 1 year metal fabrication
Other Required Experience: Read a tape measure, caliper, protractor.
Understand decimal and fraction conversion, attention to detail, ability to follow directions.
Preferred Requirements: TIG Welding
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position works in a fabrication shop environment and is exposed to hazards consistent with that environment. Noise levels exceeding 85 dB are routinely present. Infrequently involves exposure to temperature extremes and fumes/odors consistent with a Machine Shop.
Job involves constant standing during machine operation and regular walking.
Routine lifting of up to 50 lbs. Periodic requirement to lift over 50 lbs. (It is expected that you will find help lifting any load in excess of 50 lbs.)
SUMMARY:
Custom fabricate sheet metal parts via brake press forming, rolling and saw-cutting operations. These parts are used by end-user customers as stand-alone parts or parts of a larger assembly.
Inputs to the Position:
- Cut parts from the Laser Department.
- Design/Fabrication prints/sketches from Designer/Engineer/Project Manager
- Raw Material: sheet metal, bar stock, tubing, pipe, etc
Continuous:
- Accu Press Brake Press
- Fork Truck
- Tape Measure
- Combination Square
- Protractor
- Rubber Mallet
- Vernier Caliper
- Davi Roller
- Seam Welder
- Overhead Crane
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
- Brake Press Operation—Read and understand design/fabrication print. Setup brake press to achieve required bend (adjust machine settings as needed). Bend the metal and verify shape/layout vs. the design print. Adjust, as necessary.
- Band Saw Operation—Read and understand design/fabrication print. Setup band saw to achieve required cut (adjust machine settings as needed). Cut the metal and verify shape/dimension vs. the design print. Deburr & clean-cut parts. Band saws are used to cut tubing and pipe.
- Roller Operation - Read and understand design/fabrication print. Setup roller to achieve the required radius (adjust machine settings as needed). Roll the metal and verify shape/layout vs. the design print. Adjust/reroll, as necessary. Operating both automatic and hand-operated sheet metal rollers.
- Overhead and Jig Cranes operation – Operate these machines as needed to move material.
- Fork truck operation
- Participate in all safety programs and follow all safety rules and policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Major challenges or most difficult types of problems expected to be resolved in the course of work:
- Constantly shifting priorities (project build order/priority).
- Shifting machine operation based above mentioned project priority.
- Determining proper bend sequence to fabricate per the print.
- Deadline driven.
- Mental alertness
- Keen awareness of surroundings and environment
- Determine proper order of bend sequence to yield an accurate part.
- Select appropriate tooling on brake press.
- Select appropriate settings for pressure, material thickness & radius on roller to achieve required diameter.
- Determine cut sequence on band saw to maximize material consumption and minimize waste.
